"Pure instinct made Joe take a flying dive to the ground behind a nearby woodpile located a few steps from his truck. An earsplitting explosion followed hard on the heels of his mad dive, the blast itself followed by parts of his truck. Hot shards of glass and pieces of metal fell from the sky like demented and dangerous hailstones.

A mile away, at the next farm, the Captain looked back at the echoed boom with a crooked smile.

"Gotcha!" he exclaimed as he crossed out Joe's name on the list of names and addresses he was carrying."

Welcome to America as you have never known it, where your worst fears and concerns are not conspiracy theories. They are real. Join Joe Anderson in this epic battle to Survive in an America that is Under Siege.

Surviving In America Under Siege 2nd Edition A Joe Anderson Novel Book 1 eBook Paul Andrulis

Paul has crafted a fine work, enjoyable, fast paced, and to the point. Survival is not just a frame of mind, but dedicated, hard work. It is a way of life that brooks no nonsense, for quite often, there are NO second chances. His background as an experienced outdoorsman gives his writing authenticity, gripping the intelligent, questing reader. One should heed his survival hierarchy of necessities. The philosophy of this book is the need to be self sufficient, being able to survive off the bounty of the land, and regardless of circumstances, thrive... I don't know if Paul has started a survival school yet, but I do hope he considers the possibility. Such skills as he writes of, as in what one can do in extreme, extraordinary circumstances, should become second nature for those who want to live...

Bravo Zulu, Paul. Well Done. I regret I can only give Five out of Five Stars... Worthy of joining the exalted ranks of Jerry D. Young, Gary B. Ott (Tired Old Man/TOM), and the late Fleataxi... OldArcher does highly recommend.

Surviving In America Under Siege 2nd Edition A Joe Anderson Novel Book 1 eBook Paul Andrulis Reviews

While this book was based on conspiracy theories that can be found on the internet such as Does FEMA have concentration camps. Under Bush 1 about 1992 or so, the construction arm of Haliburton was awarded a 900 million contract to refurbish the old Japanese Internment Camps and to build new ones. These camps were to used in case of massive civil unrest. I also found the Bush Administration had developed a plan to deal with massive civil unrest. So maybe some of the theories are not so theory. Since 1992, our freedoms have consistenly been under attack and more so under the current Obama administration.

I did not notice all the grammical errors, that other reviewers did because I was absorbed in the story. The main character Joe was fairly well developed as was Zeb the Sergeant. The other supporting characters were adequate. Plot could have been improved by an inclusion or better description of some specific survival techniques since the author has 30 years experience. I did like Joe taught We The People to become the effective guerilla force we were during the Revolutionary War. An effective guerilla force will almost always defeat a larger military short of massive nuking. (Viet Nam was a good example. The French and the US both lost there). The zoo animals in the plot were unexpected but a logical outcome under the circumstances and it certainly added a couple of exciting scenes.

One thing I liked was the story came to a definite conclusion yet left room for a followup series. Overall despite the grammical errors, the book is a good read for the author's first time out.
OK I know in the intro the author says this is set in an alternate universe. But his obsession with the weakness of the m-16 round, that he constantly has the military folks referring to as .223, (the Military uses 5.56 not .223 to a civilian the differences may not matter but a trained soldier uses and would say 5.56) At one point he has 2 soldiers putting at least 3 magazines of 223 through a Kodiak bear and 2 others join in putting "magazine after magazine" into him and the hero tells them to stop, "you will only make him mad." The hero then kills him with 3 rounds from his Mosin Nagant. I know the Mosin is round for round more powerful than a m-16 but hundreds of M-16 rounds did NOTHING????

Earlier the hero watches a house being destroyed by a two 50 cal machine gun and thinks "at least they aren't SAWs those things are nasty" Well a SAW is not more powerful or deadly than a 50 cal machine gun. Actually a SAW uses the same caliber ammo as an M-16, which puts it in the class of "poodle shooter" that the author dislikes so much.

I know it sounds like I hated it but I actually liked it, it just could have been a easy 4 or 5 star book. As soon as I finish this review I am going to order the sequel.
NOTE ***Semi-SPOILERS***

Although the premise of the story line was good, some of the scenario's seemed a bit far-fetched and not realistic. As for some of the conspiracy theories incorporated into the story, I tend to agree with much of the mindset the author was presenting. Although I believe there could very well be U.S. military personnel, police and homeland suckurity trained people who will not blink an eye at following orders to take out American civilians, I tend to lean more towards NATO troops being allowed to come in and do the dirty work. Those are the ones who won't have a guilt trip or have any feelings about killing civilians.

Much of the story seemed to jump from one extreme to another, calm down a bit and then jump right back into intense activity. Not being able to kill a bear with hundreds of rounds was just a waaaaaaaay bit over the top, imho. But then, Joe was able to dispatch the bear with three rounds. Ok, I get it...excitement, action and fiction. But it needs to be somewhat believable when writing in this genre.

Editing could have been a lot better, word usage was disjointed in numerous areas, but I made it through.

Toward the end, the author is trying to relate to punishment of the military via the "Unified Code of Military Justice." Ummmmm...It's "Uniform Code of Military Justice."

Anyway...there is a mix of good, bad and ugly in this story. Some will see it for what it is, others will see it for what they want it to be.
